More Than 45,000 Sign Up for Bison Hunt

Over 45,000 people signed up for 12 spots in the planned Bison cull in the Grand Canyon National Park. This will be the first-ever controlled cull in the park which is a pretty cool opportunity and it seems that lots of others thought this was a pretty cool opportunity too.
The department will select 25 names through a lottery, vet them and forward finalists to the park service. The first 12 who to submit a packet of information requested by the park service will be part of the volunteer program in the fall, said Kaitlyn Thomas, Grand Canyon spokeswoman, on Wednesday. The volunteers who are selected will find out by May 17th.
I didn't get my request submitted in time because I forgot about it and also figured they would never pick me in a million years so I actually won't be one of the lucky 12 getting this pretty cool opportunity. It also seems that they are going to be looking at skill levels of the applicants which I think might have also impacted my chances. Unfair? Some say so.
Anyway, if you are one of the lucky 12, it's not going to be easy work. It's expected to be pretty grueling. The hunt will be done on foot at elevations of 8,000 feet or higher at the Grand Canyon’s north rim. Volunteers can’t use motorized transportation or stock animals to retrieve the bison that can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and will have to field dress them with help from a support crew. Snow could also be a factor.
The Guardian scooped me and talked to one of the applicants, James Vasko, who said, “I just thought it would be a cool experience,” said Vasko, a 27-year-old who works in real estate and farms in Omaha, Nebraska. “I’m an avid fisher, hunter. Going to Grand Canyon to hunt bison would be absolutely awesome.”
So pretty cool story. If one of our millions of fans is out there and is one of the lucky 12, let us know. Don't go talking to those clowns at The Guardian.
And hey, check this one out. (Yes we are a shirt company so I'm going to shill shamelessly).
We've been told by scientists from the Mike Birt Academy of Making Up Numbers, that wearing this shirt increases your hunting skills by over 350%. That's pretty amazing.
